Concrete Weight Calculator

How much a concrete slab, footing or block weighs — volume at the standard 150 lb per cubic foot, answered in pounds, kilograms and tons.

Piece size

Concrete is heavier than it looks — by a standard amount

Cured concrete weighs about 150 lb per cubic foot (2,400 kg per cubic meter) — the figure engineers, demo crews and trailer owners all plan against. Enter a slab, footing or block's dimensions and this calculator returns its weight in pounds, kilograms, US tons and tonnes: the number that decides whether the pickup can haul the rubble, whether the deck can carry the hearth, and what the landfill ticket will say.

Weight = length × width × thickness × 150 lb per cu ft  ·  Per sq ft: 4 in slab = 50 lb · 5 in = 62.5 lb · 6 in = 75 lb
Example: a 10 × 10 ft slab, 6 in thick, is 50 cu ft — 7,500 lb of concrete: 3.75 tons (3,402 kg). The same slab at 4 in weighs 5,000 lb.

Demolition first: a standard half-ton pickup carries roughly 1,000–1,500 lb of payload, so that 10 × 10 patio slab is five to seven trips, or one trip for a rented dump trailer with room to spare — arithmetic worth doing before the sledgehammer, not after. Structures second: a new concrete hearth, countertop or hot-tub pad puts a known load on a floor that was framed for an assumed one; 75 lb per sq ft is a number a joist span table can be checked against. And reinforcement changes the figure only slightly — rebar and mesh add roughly 1–2% in a residential slab — while lightweight concrete is a different material entirely at about 115 lb per cu ft, specced deliberately where weight matters.

Broken up, the same slab weighs the same in total but fills more room: rubble bulks up by roughly half again its solid volume, which is the tonnage calculator's 1.2 tons per loose yard at work.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a cubic yard of concrete weigh?

About 4,050 lb — just over 2 tons. That is solid, cured concrete at 150 lb per cu ft × 27. A yard of broken rubble weighs only about 2,400 lb because of the air between chunks; haulers estimate with the rubble figure, engineers with the solid one.

How much does a 4-inch concrete slab weigh per square foot?

50 lb per sq ft — the quickest figure in the table above. A 10 × 10 ft patio at 4 in is 5,000 lb; at 6 in it is 7,500. If a floor or deck must carry it, that per-foot figure is the one the framing has to answer.

Does rebar make concrete much heavier?

Barely — typically 1–2% in residential work. The steel is dense but there is little of it by volume. The 150 lb per cu ft planning figure already treats a normally reinforced slab fairly; heavily engineered structures calculate their steel separately.

Is fresh concrete the same weight as cured?

Close — fresh concrete runs about the same 145–150 lb per cu ft before the mix water that curing consumes leaves. Formwork is designed against the fresh figure with a safety margin, because a form failure during the pour is the one outcome nobody gets to estimate twice.
